Does Fibreglass really hold up against Aluminium?

Fibreglass scaffolding also generally falls into the category of Light Duty ratings, This means that fibreglass scaffolding has a SWL=225kg, but normally a design height of 4–6 metres.

Fibreglass has nowhere near the longevity of Aluminium.

It is a lighter product to handle than Aluminium, although both systems could be classified as very light and easy to handle.

Fibreglass is not subject to rust, which is the same condition as alloy, but it will require vigilant visual checking and inspection, as it is prone to cracking. Fibreglass scaffold is difficult to transport, due to this tendency to crack. However, the big advantage of fibreglass is that it is a non-conductor of electricity.

Generally the railways, which experience high levels of voltage in the overhead lines, use fibreglass scaffoldings. Power Sub-Stations have similarly used Fibreglass Scaffoldings in the past.

It is safer than not only Aluminium Scaffoldings, but also other height access equipment such as Cherry Pickers and Scissor Lifts.

Generally, the home handyman, tradesman or contractor would not use Fibreglass scaffoldings, due to their limitations.

It is quite a niche market, and due to its limited strength and stability, it is not beneficial for use unless working in a High Voltage area.
